• Why do we still mask and distance?

  During this pandemic time, your CEE leadership and clergy have been guided by the advice of medical experts and by our Jewish ethical requirement to preserve life. Even after state mandates have been lifted, we continue to take our responsibilities very seriously and we exercise our right to maintain our own safety standards. We require masks and physical distancing to protect those who are vulnerable.

• Who is still vulnerable?

  Our experts tell us that those who are not fully vaccinated (including children who have not yet had the opportunity to complete vaccination) and those who have certain medical conditions are still at risk of contracting potentially life-threatening Covid 19 from exposure to others who may not be aware that they carry the infection.

• Why do we require that everyone wear masks and distance even if they are vaccinated?

  Some Jewish congregations are requiring proof of vaccination. In order to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible, your leadership decided we would not separate people in this way. Instead, we require that everyone mask so that we can stand in solidarity. Remember that each person is making a decision to attend with the assurance that everyone will be masked. We need to respect the comfort level and possible vulnerability of each person deciding to attend.

• What about Oneg Shabbat (a.k.a. refreshments)?

  At this time, in order to maintain masking and physical distancing, no food will be served after the shabbat services and we will not be congregating in the Social Hall.

• Will the Sisterhood Gift Shop be open?

  Not yet. The gift shop is a very confined space that does not allow necessary physical distancing.

• How long will we need to mask and distance?

  Our experts tell us that these protective measures will be necessary until the transmission rate in the county drops below high risk to the moderate risk and low risk levels. This will happen when more people are vaccinated. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments to our policies as indicated. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the opportunity to get together in person again!
